P.C. Congregate Meals to see bump in suggested donation price

On July 1, the suggested donation price for Congregate Meals for Phillips County Seniors will go to $4 after many years of being at $3.

Mary Lou Broadbrooks, Phillips County Health Nurse and board member on the Phillips County Council on Aging, explained that the suggested donation price is being increased because the bids from facilities that provide the meals continue to get higher each year.

"It has probably been at $3 for at least the last 10-years," Broadbrooks said. "The program is open to anyone 60 years or older and their spouses.”

Locations and times for the Congregate Meals in Phillips County are at the Great Northern in Malta on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to noon; in Saco at the Cabin Café on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. until noon; in Whitewater at the North 40 on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and in Zortman at the Miner’s Café on Monday and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Guests are welcome to join seniors at these locations for meals for a $6 fee and gift certificates are available.

All meals comply with Dietary Guidelines for America and provide a minimum of 33 1/3-percent of the daily recommended dietary allowances, according to Phillips County Council on Aging literature.

Donations are welcome and used to keep the meals and other senior programs available.
