Beef donated to HLRC by Masons

The Malta Mason Lodge #57 were a part of a special event at the Hi-Line Retirement Center (HLRC) thanks to a generous donation of a beef by fellow Mason and retired veterinarian Doc Curtis.

A cow that Curtis owned had lost her calf last summer and developed a bum leg.

Curtis fattened the cow up during the summer and decided to donate the beef to the HLRC.

Don Watts and Duane Murray helped to butcher the beef along with other Masons in the processing.

Curtis coordinated very closely with Barb Bushman in the HLRC kitchen and she was thrilled to death.

The HLRC cooked up a choice of meatloaf dinner or tomato beef noodle soup for the residents on January 31st.

"It was just a good evening," Doc Curtis stated during an interview.

"We helped with the coffee, serving the meal and busing the tables. But the biggest benefit, I believe, of the whole evening is the clients get to visit people. They would say oh I remember you, oh my gosh you grew up," Curtis said.

Curtis continued with how the evening went, "It was just a wonderful experience for us as Masons to interact with people we've known virtually all our lives and give something back to them. These people have been our mentors, teachers, and guides."

The HLRC staff worked with the service to make sure the correct orders went to the right residents.

The Mason's invited the Malta Sacajewea #37 Order of Eastern Star to come and help serve.

The beef was donated in the name of the Malta Mason Lodge #57.

Even if you don't have a beef to donate, contact the HLRC and plan a time to help out or just visit with the residents. It will make your day.
