Mustangs Galt, Carney sign with colleges

Last Wednesday, February 3 was National Signing Day, a day in which students sign letters of intent to go to colleges all over the country.

Two of our own local athletes made their college intentions known as well.

Former senior Mustangs football players Jase Galt and Tyson Carney have both signed to colleges with the intent to study as well as prolong their football careers.

Galt, who played quarterback for Malta has signed with Montana Tech in Butte to play quarterback as an Ore Digger in Butte, Mont.

Carney, who stood out as both a cornerback and wide receiver has signed to the University of Mary to play wide receiver as a Marauder in Bismarck, N. D.

“They came here (to a Malta football game) when I was a junior and they told me to come out to their camp in the summer,” Carney said. “They offered me a scholarship. It was a pretty good offer.”

Upon his visit, Carney really enjoyed the Bismarck area.

“It’s a capital, so everything comes through there,” Carney said. “Kevin Hart is coming through there this summer. It’s a pretty lively town.”

He plans on playing wide receiver, but is open to playing cornerback if the opportunity is there. He went on to say that he enjoys playing wide receiver more.

Galt, who threw to Carney will be playing in a town with a completely different atmosphere.

“There’s a lot of mountains up there,” Galt said. “I definitely like the mountains and I think that Butte is a cool town because it’s so old and there’s a lot of cool stuff to go look at. It’s kind of like being at home again.”

The Ore Diggers ran a pretty complex offense that utilized three different quarterbacks in a rotation that included running a spread offense and option plays.

Galt has no idea how they will use him but he wants to run as well as throw, which are things he thrived at in Mustang blue.
