One Nation, Under God

Constitution Week

What is Constitution Day and Citizenship Day?

Constitution Day is observed each year on September 17th to commemorate the signing of the Constitution on September 17, 1787. Originally entitled Citizenship Day, recent legalization has renamed the day as Constitution and Citizenship Day and mandated that federally funded schools and federal agencies provide instruction and information about the Constitution.

In 1955, President Eisenhower proclaimed the first Constitution Week with Proclamation 3109, on August 19, 1955. Constitution Week is celebrated annually during the week of September 17-23.

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Milk River Chapter of Glasgow/Malta, give teachers of Malta Schools information on the Constitution for their teaching to help in the class rooms.
