M-ettes Split District Games

Malta defeats Poplar but falls to Glasgow

The Malta M-ette volleyball team faced a pair of 2B opponents and split those games, defeating the Poplar Indians 3-0 on Tuesday, September 7, and then losing 3-0 to the Glasgow Lady Scotties on Thursday, September 9.

The team is scheduled to play the Harlem Wildcats in Harlem on Friday, September 17. They will then host the Wolf Point Lady Wolves on Saturday, September 18. The M-ettes were scheduled to play North Country in Malta on Tuesday, September 14, at 4:30 p.m. The game recap will be provided in the September 22 issue of the PCN.

In Malta's win over Poplar, the scores were 25-16, 25-9, and 25-9.

"The game against Poplar just came easy to us," Coach Hines said. "We were really tired tonight (against Glasgow), but against Poplar, we were fresh."

The M-ettes were led by junior Allison Kunze who had nine of Malta's 25 kills and one block. Kennedy Koss had four of 18 team digs. Lauren Tuss had nine of Malta's 22 aces and nine assists.

In Malta's loss to Glasgow, the scores were 25-18, 25-19, and 25-18.

"We were struggling to get the ball up to our setter," Coach Hines said. "Things were not coming together as easy for them."

She also said that the team had too many net calls and believes that nerves may have played a role in the loss.

The team was led by Tia Siewing who had four of Malta's eight aces. Rylee Hines had six digs and five blocks, Tuss had eight assists. Kunze, Addy Anderson, and R. Hines each had three kills.

"I believe that this game needed to happen, so that the girls could find their focus, just bear down and play the game," Coach Hines said. "Regardless of the crowd, regardless of where we are, or what situation we are in."
