Our nursing staff and providers were invited to come in and test the equipment. Their equipment was impressive and included the most up-to-date technology. Grades 1 through 5 entered 43 entries, and the kindergarteners could enter a Collection, with 11 choosing to be in the Fair this year. The entries were all set up at the Malta Elementary School on Monday and were judged by a panel of judges. In the afternoon, the gym where the projects...

  • Legion Juniors Add New Project

    Kari Hould, PCN Staff|Apr 3, 2024

The American Legion Auxiliary Juniors of Malta Post 57 have added a new project this year as part of their service to the men and women who have served in the military. This year they are preparing small packets of seeds for an annual flower, the "Forget Me Not." The small plastic bags contain seeds and planting instructions. It was decided to send seeds rather than starting the flower, as weather conditions in Montana were a factor. The Juniors will provide the families of local veterans who...

  • Mother Nature Doesn't Stop Ag Day

    Kari Hould, PCN Staff|Apr 3, 2024

As spring was welcomed with open arms and brooms standing solo in the kitchens, the rush to exchange seasons lasted less time than it took to brush the cobwebs off the screen door. Montana's winter season swung back around and dumped moisture across the state, and did not forget to visit Phillips County. The eager beavers found themselves swapping out flip flops and jogging shorts to locating the kids' winter caps and gloves again. It was a sure sign spring is here...the storm was just Mother...

  • House 28 Candidate Introduction

    Apr 3, 2024

Voters of House District 28, I would like to introduce myself to you. I’m a third generation Montana farmer, writer, and a graduate of Blue Sky High. My family and I live in Inverness and farm on the border. I don’t want to waste your time with my biography, so please go to wicks4freedom.org for my full bio. I am a conservative constitutional, pro-gun, pro-life, anti-woke Republican that believes that “keeping Helena in Helena” is best for Montana. I am the candidate that will fight hardest for your God given rights. If you are looking for som...

  • A Respectful Response from Senator Lang

    Apr 3, 2024

Dear Editor, The separation of powers among the three co-equal branches of government are essential; and I agree that no branch should be able to overreach it’s bounds. I want to tell you why this overreach is not happening with SB 442! In Montana, our Constitution does not allow the Executive branch to have the final say over bills adopted by the Montana Legislature, which is the Senate and House of Representatives collectively. The ongoing dispute regarding SB 442 is about preserving the separation of powers. The Executive branch exercised t...

  • Harry Knew A Few Things

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Apr 3, 2024

My father-in-law, Harry Johnson, left Texas in 1953 and moved to Gallatin County. Quickly falling in love with the Big Sky state, he made Montana home, raising a son and daughter here. He died in Ennis in 1995. But as much as Harry loved Montana, he didn’t care for the winters, which he thought were too long, too cold, too confining. A mason, he’d take his family south each winter, picking up jobs laying brick and stone in the desert before returning to Montana in the spring. Once back home Bar...

  • It Took 11 Years to Go There, Now I Can't Stay Away

    Pierre Bibbs, Play Ball|Apr 3, 2024

Every once in a while, when our kids have a “break” at school or an extended weekend, we get a chance to take a break ourselves. It may not be common knowledge, but a trip across the northern border has become one of my family’s favorite things to do. If you follow the speed limit, it takes about the same time to reach Medicine Hat, Alberta as it does Billings, maybe 15 minutes more. In the Easter of 2023, we took a trip to Swift Current, Saskatchewan. That trip ended with us driving to Medicine...

  • Loring News for Wednesday, April 3, 2024

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Apr 3, 2024

It’s true, it’s not an April Fools' Joke. I came down with a sore throat and cough. It is not fun! I think that wild animals must be adapted to the colder weather. I had dinner with Dave Menshew on Monday and Friday. He filled me in on the class that he was in about prepping the fossils. Sympathy is extended to the Steve Schumacher family on his death. Steve has been our Loring Lutheran lay pastor for the last few months. I saw a few robins this week! I heard them a few weeks ago but this tim...

  • Montana FWP Says "Be Bear Aware"

    Apr 3, 2024

As spring weather approaches, we’re all anxious to head outdoors, and bears are leaving their winter dens. This time of year, bears are waking up from hibernation and are pretty hungry. So, it’s best for you, and for the bears, not to leave out anything that will attract their appetite or their curiosity. If you’re outside working or recreating, you need to be aware that bears are out there, too. Anytime bears are not in hibernation, which is typically between the beginning of March and the end of November, is the time to be bear aware, accor...

One-third of people aged 65 and older may never need long-term care support, but one-fifth will need it for longer than 5 years. Long-term care is the largest out-of-pocket health c...
