One Nation, Under God

From the desk at Hi Line Retirement Center:

On this very hot Tuesday morning, I am going to give you an update on the nursing home. We are a licensed 52 bed facility, and today’s census in skilled nursing is 48. We are full with 14 in assisted living, and 4 in independent apartments. I’m Barb Dunbar Director of Nursing; we just finished our second certified nursing assistant class. We have successfully graduated 11 nursing assistants from the two classes. In our nursing department we employ 33 certified nursing assistants, 14 licensed nurses and 5 certified med tech II. We are fully staffed and always taking new applicants. We are also always signing applicants up for the next CNA class. Feel free to stop by and inquire about either. We have a heavy acuity wing, a more independent wing and our dementia wing. We constantly training our staff to take the best care of our residents that we possibly can. Long term care is a different style of nursing; we were all hired by the residents to take care of them in their home. Their addresses have changed however this is their home, we are proud of the care we give. Please stop in, coffee is always on and we’ll always stop and visit with you.

“Lord to all, help me to be flexible and go with the flow as I care for my residents. Help me to discover the humor in unusual situations and not take life so seriously.”

Sincerely,

Barb Dunbar
