    Mark Hebert, Publisher|Mar 13, 2019

Which of the two acts will be on the grandstand first at this year's Phillips County Fair in Dodson is still a question, but the talent that will be playing this year's big concert is not. The Randy Rogers Band and Casey Donahew Band will be featured in concert at the 104th Phillips County Fair this August. Fair Board member Eric Wilke told the PCN that both bands will play full 75-to-90-minute concerts on Friday, August 2, and the board is thrilled to bring these Country Music acts to Dodson....

  • Preventing Influenza: a note from the Health Department

    Phillips County Health Department|Mar 13, 2019

We are receiving more and more positive flu cases every day so it's important for the community to know how to prevent getting influenza, and when to return to work and school so the spread to others can be reduced. People with flu are most contagious in the first three to four days after their illness begins. Most healthy adults may be able to infect others beginning 1 day before symptoms develop and up to 5 to 7 days after becoming sick. Children and people with weakened immune systems may pass the virus for longer than 7...

  • Eggebrecht spends time at Capitol as page

    Mark Hebert, Publisher|Mar 13, 2019

If you know Malta High School senior Taylor Eggebrecht at all, you know she stays busy. From running cross country to coaching youth basketball and from being named to the Montana Coaches Association (MCA) Academic All-State Team to being a member of such organizations as BPA, Malta Key Club and reAct, or volunteering at 4-H and the Malta Boys and Girls Club, Eggebrecht generally has her hands full. With that, it came as no surprise that she recently served as a page in the Montana House of Repr...

  • Update from Montana Senator Mike Lang

Mike Lang, Montana Senate District 17|Mar 13, 2019

While we cannot control the weather, it has been harsh here in NE Montana, you have selected me to be your Senator for SD 17. It is my responsibility as your Senator to help manage our State government with knowledge and respect with “Progress from Conservative Common Sense”. Your 66th Legislature is on transmittal break, the halfway point of a 90-day session. One part of the legislative process is to debate and revise present law while repealing laws or passing new legislation. The second obligation is to balance the budget for the next bienni...

  • NorthWestern Energy's 2019 draft Montana electric supply plan open for public comment

    Mar 13, 2019

NorthWestern Energy released the draft 2019 Montana Electricity Supply Resource Procurement Plan for a 60-day public comment period. The plan will be filed with the Montana Public Service Commission after the public comment period ends. Montana’s energy landscape is evolving, changing from a state that produces more electricity than our citizens can use 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, to a state where there is a growing risk there won’t be enough electricity to serve our citizens at critical times of peak demand. A sim...

  • Wearing out its welcome

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors columnist|Mar 13, 2019

I was surprised to read Frances Kim’s guest editorial in which she wrote about feeling excluded from the Bozeman outdoor community. Kim wrote that, “the outdoors are inherently exclusionary.” I beg to differ. Because much of Montana’s outdoor recreation is free for the taking, it’s very inclusionary. You don’t have to be any particular color in order to take a hike, cast a fly, or ride a bike. There is simply little diversity in our population. We’re pretty much white folk and American Indi...

  • Heavy hand, heavier heart

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Mar 13, 2019

If you have seen me moping around Phillips County lately, it’s because the whispers you have heard or seen are true; we are moving sometime in the near future. Though it will be a new beginning for our family, it has made me sad at times. This is because I wish I could take anyone who wanted to come with us. That’s the kind of community Malta and Phillips County has been to me. Gracious, loving, welcoming, and accepting. I will miss the people, the small town atmosphere, and the sports tea...

  • Whitewater News and Opinion for March 13, 2019

    Helen Austin, PCN Correspondent|Mar 13, 2019

3-6. Sympathy to ranchers and baby calves born in cold and snow. A salute to all senior citizens who live alone, and survive our bad cold, snowy, Montana winters. We are pioneers! However, life is usually easier today, than it was for the early pioneers. Today we have electricity, gas and good heating systems. Also, and most important, most houses have indoor plumbing and running water. We should not take modern conveniences for granted, especially water. Our winter is affecting so many. For...

  • Celebrate St. Patty's at the Senior Center

    Sharon Kindle, PCN Correspondent|Mar 13, 2019

A relief in the subzero temps for this week! We have a huge icicle hanging from the garage so some snow on the roof had to melt! I was in Billings this week and even though they have a lot of snow left down there, I saw two robins and I heard a blue jay! Gives my heart a smile. I know that spring will be here! I had lunch with the senior citizens in Whitewater on Wednesday. Nice visiting with Lu Besel, Helen Austin, Sally Austin, and Jeanie Green. I did my observation at the Whitewater School and started off to Billings for my Dermatologist a...
