  • Dodson School welcomes new Superintendent

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Aug 19, 2015

Though school starts for all Phillips County schools this Wednesday, school started for Dodson School's new Superintendent Gary Weitz a long time ago. "School started 30 years ago for me and has never ended," Superintendent Gary Weitz said last Friday. "It's never ended and I am kind of a school-junkie. I love being around the school and not just on the work day." Superintendent Weitz pointed toward the Confucius quote which states "choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day...

On Tuesday night in Malta, the City Council unanimously approved the usage of City Hall to two different groups looking to teach dance and tumbling classes to the youth of Phillips County. "I have been taking dance classes up there since I was in the third grade," said Malta's Devyn Salsbery, who is now a sophomore. • Time to get my cutthroat fix

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoor Columnist|Aug 19, 2015

I’m headed into the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone next week to get my cutthroat fix. It’s a familiar spot. I’ve been fishing there for more than 40 years. The walls of the canyon are steep, and the river rushes between them, roaring in places, and pooling deep and green behind boulders in others. Trout rise from the depths like ghosts to eat my flies and tickle my fancy. When I lived in Cooke City it was a place my friend Steve and I would fish on a moments notice. Now it takes a bit more...

  • Unfortunately, they didn't miss

    Aug 19, 2015

Dear Editor, Photo taken 7-13-2015 out my kitchen window. To the person who shot their mother - August 6th at 7:15 a.m. - this is a photo of the fawns that were left behind. Wonder if they had been told by the mother - moving around in the City of Malta would be safe - too bad someone refused to be lawful. Hopefully you will obey the law and not shoot these when you see them walking down your street. Shame on you ! Barbara Schlocker Malta...

  • Back to school and anniversary

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Aug 19, 2015

And I used to think summer break went fast, when I was a kid. When I was younger, back to school was a bittersweet feeling. Things I loved about going back to school included seeing old friends and making new ones. Seeing new classrooms and teachers was an exciting thing, especially in high school because often times I would have several new teachers. I loved P.E. because I didn’t participate in summer sports. I had a love hate relationship with English Literature because I hated reading, but lo...

  • This new 'battle of the sexes?'

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Aug 19, 2015

If you aren’t a fan of boxing or MMA fighting, this might not be the column for you. If you are interested in a story about man vs. woman, stick around. Remember back in 1973 when aged tennis star Bobby Riggs challenged top ranked women’s tennis star Billie Jean King in what was deemed the “Battle of the Sexes?” That event was televised worldwide (and estimated 90 million viewers) and brought over 30,000 spectators to the Houston Astrodome to witness the exhibition. Now keep in mind that this was the heyday of the Woman’s Lib movement...
