I’m headed into the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone next week to get my cutthroat fix. It’s a familiar spot. I’ve been fishing there for more than 40 years. Lee Ira Bruckner, the fourth son of John and Ida Bruckner, was born September 16, 1927. Lee grew up in the Harb Community with three older and two younger brothers and one older sister. His brother, Glenn, still lives in Malta. Dr. Evert Bruckner resides in Redlands, Calif. His parents, brothers Raymond, Laurin and Harvey, and sister, Muriel, are deceased. Shelby Brookie has been named the 54th Distinguished Young Woman of Phillips County. Shelby will compete in the Distinguished Young Women of Montana Scholarship Program in Helena on Sunday, August 23rd at 2:00 p.m. The winner of the State program will compete for the title of America's Distinguished Young Women in Mobile, Alabama in June of 2016. Malta's newest science teacher, Kara Bates, comes to us from Plains, MT. Bates holds two Bachelor of Science degrees, one in secondary science education and another degree in microbiology. Both degrees were earned at MSU Bozeman. Her last year was spent in Plentywood, MT, where she student taught high school science. Summer camp for Malta Troop 1429 was held July 19th to 25th at K-M Ranch north of Lewistown, Mont. Malta's Coed Softball League wrapped up it's season last Tuesday, August 11, the way that it started, with a few rounds of batting practice. Jo Tharp, the league's founder felt that the six week league went pretty well. "The first meeting that we had, we only had a few people show up and we did batting practice," Tharp said.
