  • Parade of Lights, Christmas Scrip kick off on October 27

    Dina Meneely, Malta Merchants|Oct 19, 2016

You may have heard about Scrip loans during the holiday season, but whether you are new to our area, or a long time resident, you may not know the benefits of this community supporting program. Scrip is a substitute for legal tender, and commonly in the form of credit. It can be traced back to logging and mining days where draws on wages could be done at company stores. In modern times, it’s a way for you to keep your spending local and balance those budget needs during the holiday season. Residents can apply for up to a $1,000 loan from any l...

  • Chamber names Bagley Person of Influence

    Dina Meneely, Malta Chamber|Sep 28, 2016

When nominating a Person of Influence the following two questions are asked and these are the responses received for Donny Bagley. 1. Why Should They Be Recognized as the Person of Influence? Donny has been very active in the community as an EMT on the Phillips County Ambulance. He has worked in that capacity for more than 35 years since he started in North Dakota and then, when he came here 16 years ago, he joined the group in our community. Over the last four years, it has been very heart warming to receive cards and letters of thank you and...

  • Shopping locally: $50 x 12 = $1,000,000

    Dina Meneely, Malta Merchants|Aug 31, 2016

A few weeks ago you saw our #PCLifestyle article about how $50 x 12 = $1,000,000. If you missed it, it said that if each person in the county, of working age, chooses to spend $50 of their current monthly budget, locally, we can see a benefit of over a $1,000,000 put back into our local economy. Now we want to know, how did you spend your $50 this month? Here are some of my favorites. Myself, I spent it in a recycling bin for cans (to drop off at MOI!), a bag of concrete repair and paint for our front steps. It was so much easier than buying...

  • How does 50x12=1million? Do the math

    Dina Meneely, Malta Merchants|Jun 15, 2016

This may be making our math teachers cringe, but let me explain how 50x12 can equal one million. We each have the choice to spend our money locally or out of town. You’ve heard us at the Chamber and Malta Merchants beat the drum of Shop Local for years, but what does it really mean? What does it matter if you get your haircut out of town, or buy those groceries online? Let’s say each one of us who is of working age would make a conscious effort to take $50 of their cur-rent monthly budget and spend it locally. This is not spending an add...

  • Malta Chamber of Commerce News for week of February 24, 2016

    Dina Meneely, Malta Chamber|Feb 24, 2016

One of the reasons the Chamber is so proud to serve this community is how much you all give back! I have three exceptional examples for you. This week, the Chamber led volunteers at the Districts basketball tournament. It’s a pleasure to be able to be a part of these events and promote our area. By volunteering, not only do you get to see some fast-paced basketball, but you get the chance to visit with people outside of our area, who continue to be impressed with all we have to offer, from shopping to restaurants and services, we are so f...

    Dina Meneely, Malta Chamber|Dec 16, 2015

This past Monday was the Night of Giving, a night where we could give back to those who give so much. Many shoppers took advantage of KMMR’s food bank coupons, making a donation to our local food bank and then a shopping discount at our stores. I can’t think of a better way to shop local and donate local! There were also collections for Toys for Tots and the Angel Tree program. This week, was also the Chamber/Merchant’s Button drawing. This was our way to give back to all of you, who support our community. Congratulations to our winners! If yo...

The Little White Church strolled through the streets with carols and got us all in the holiday spirit. Cattlewomen and the LDS church generously served snacks throughout the night. We sure are...
