Some look forward to the closing out of another year, while some dread it and there are those who waltz into a new year and not even know the last one was closing out. Which one best describes you has a great deal to do with several factors: how much you enjoyed the 365 days we call a year; how you were able to spend the year; and what memories you made throughout the year. Let's set aside factors like poor memory so we can at least start on the same level. What did we each do with the...

    Kari Hould, PCN Staff|Jan 3, 2024

The nights are longer, the days are shorter. Soon we will close out another year on our calendar. Some of our loved ones will not witness the ending of 2023...and some of those are our family and friends who were in the military at some given time. The years they served left a memory for their family, and now they themselves are a memory. The year 2023 was a rather quiet year for VFW Post 4067 and American Legion Unit 57 color guard. They attended and honored comrades at eight funerals for...

  • A Tangled Mess!

    Kari Hould, PCN Staff|Dec 20, 2023

It stood there, in the clear. Not a soul was near, it showed no fear. As it wiggled its ear, the face made a sneer. There in his eye was a tear, almost a blear, yet no one knew how he got here, for he had no gear. Confused, onlookers knew there was no pier nor weir anywhere near; from where did the deer appear? He was of good cheer, as though he'd had a beer, but it was clear as he made a jeer, he'd avoid any spear that came near. He sauntered along in low gear, his head swiveling as if it was...

    Kari Hould, PCN Staff|Dec 13, 2023

If one didn't know better, one might be led to believe that elfin' magic happened in the middle of the night at the Court House. Standing graciously on the ground floor of the Court House is the seasonal display put together and arranged by the fairies and pixies (aka the employees). The theme this year was based around gingerbread houses and the display is one you should make an effort to come see while it is up. Spearheaded by Jodee Lee (in her spare time), the elegant tree is surrounded by...

  • What a Year It has Been

    Kari Hould, Karis Quiet Corner|Nov 29, 2023

Ah, a deep breath and a breather…with the blessings of a calm and uneventful (at least at our house) Thanksgiving Day behind us, we take a moment to look back on the blessings from our bank of memories. What a year it has been in my world…eight months and several days ago, when I attempted a swan dive off my steps, my pace slowed down (somewhat). I am thankful my right foot and lower leg are still attached. I do not think I would’ve made a very good recipient of a prosthesis; surely the good Lord knew not to even test me. I am thankful for t...
