    The Malta Dirt Daubers Garden Club held a soup supper meeting at Toni Ziegler's home last Monday evening, Oct. 2nd. Guest speaker Billie Maxie gave a presentation on how flowers influenced her quilting projects. Maxie was never one to like quilting at first but soon grew to love giving her projects to family and friends. Flowers were the topic, along with a few vegetables and Hawaiian muumuus thrown in.     The first week of October is National 4-H week and the Phillips County News was one of the lucky businesses of a delivery of home baked cookies on Thursday, Oct. 5th from the local 4-H. The variety plate was labeled “To Make the Best Better”. Thank you for your support throughout the year. They came in with a smile and said “Thank you for supporting 4-H!” This group was representing the Big Sky Builders, Malta Steak, Rough Riders and Milk River Beef Builders all Phillips County 4-H clubs.     On Thursday, September 7, 2017 Equity Co-op held their 101st annual meeting. Current Store manager Dale Kaasa presented the past manager Mark French with a Ruger American 17 HMR rifle. French served as the manager of Equity Co-op for 18 years and was at the meeting to give his last year report.     Malta Dirt Daubers Garden Club members spent last Tuesday cutting flowers of their own and from Norma Kelly's and Michelle Rock's gardens. At Dr. Mike Veseth's carport they were busy filling almost sixty vases with fresh cut flowers. The first table was for the water filled vases and flower insertion, the next table was for adding flora and fluff, and the final table held the finished products.     Over the Memorial weekend, you may have noticed something new at Malta Cemetery. The local Malta Order of Eastern Star, Sacajawea Chapter #37 placed silver star emblems on the headstones of past woman members. The star emblems were discovered a little worse for wear in the basement of the Malta Masonic Hall. It was unknown to current members when the emblems were last used.     What is starting to become an annual event awarded whist players with $400 in Chamber Bucks. The Senior Citizen Whist League 2nd annual card playing came to an end this March. League chairman, Roger Ereaux reported that with the local sponsors they were able to cover the cost of expenses, donate to the Sr. Citizen Center and payout to participants. Sponsors generously brought in $700 of which $400 was used to purchase Chamber Bucks for the winnings.     The Malta Dirt Daubers Garden Club sponsored a no host dinner and program on “Flower Arranging” on Monday, March 6th. Guest speakers were Mary Davis, Master Flower Show Judge and Joyce Hendricks, Accredited Flower Show Judge, both of Billings. There was a short meeting led by club President Kathy Waters and Toni Ziegler introduced the guest speakers following dinner.     For the second year in a row the Malta Masonic Lodge #57 members have donated beef to the Hi-Line Retirement Center and with the help of the Order of Eastern Star (OES) Malta Sacajawea Chapter #37, also served the meal. The three members of Lodge #57 who donated beef this year were: Troy Blunt, Greg Oxarart, and Scott Waters. The beef was then prepared by the chefs at the HLRC and volunteers from both Masons and OES served the meal for dinner on Sunday, February 26th.     Wednesday, February 22 the Veseth Cattle Company of Malta held their 10th annual Bull Sale at the Pavilion. Dale and Janet Veseth wanted to do something special in appreciation to their customers. Veseth Cattle Co. and co-sponsor Lewistown Honda raffled off a new 425cc Honda 4x4 ATV. A second prize of $500 in “Bull Dollars” was awarded and taken off of purchases.     New Depot Roof This third week of October 2016 a crew from Meridian, Idaho replaced the roof of the Malta Depot. Edgar Sanchez is the owner of E&H Roofing and he said it would take about three to four days to replace the roof. “We just did the one in Shelby, Mont., too,” stated Sanchez.
