The May 30, 2016 Memorial Day was a success in Malta. Dave Rummel came to the Phillips County News to share a story that is so fitting for the upcoming Memorial Day Holiday. The joint boards of the Hi-Line Retirement Center and the Phillips County Hospital held their first meeting on Monday, March 21st, since the separation of administration. They felt it was necessary to get together for the health care of Phillips County. The Malta Mason Lodge #57 were a part of a special event at the Hi-Line Retirement Center (HLRC) thanks to a generous donation of a beef by fellow Mason and retired veterinarian Doc Curtis. A cow that Curtis owned had lost her calf last summer and developed a bum leg. Curtis fattened the cow up during the summer and decided to donate the beef to the HLRC. By January 1, 2017 a Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) will be in place by the FDA for all who handle livestock affecting farm/ranch operations and even showmanship. The FDA is requiring veterinary over sight because our consumers are asking us to.
