Linden Holt (kindergarten) dedicated "The Still" (about an old-timer neighbor who knew "what and I even know whose") to Wesley Orahood, who graduated from Tallow Creek in 1942. • Permit for photos?

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Oct 8, 2014

Take only photographs. Leave only footprints. That’s the mantra for visiting wild lands. Or at least it used to be. Now the feds want to add a caveat: “Make sure you purchase a $1,500 permit for those photographs.” Under a directive issued by the U.S. Forest Service last week, permits would be required by journalists, film crews and even hobbyists to shoot photos or film in designated wilderness areas. The new rules would even require newspaper photographers to obtain special use permits befor...

  • If my barn door is open, feel free to let me know

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Oct 8, 2014

Fans of the front page weather spot -- I know there are at least a dozen of you – I must apologize as I’ve made a bit of a fuax pus in the last couple of weeks. I have forgotten to change the commentary in said feature and I’ve called for “warmer weather with a chance of rain” for at least three weeks in a row. Crimeny! I forgot that I had started adding a synopsis to each week’s weather prediction and I haven’t changed it in a bit. It is a nice touch, I think, and I will now remember to change it on a weekly basis. However, If it is still read...

  • Whitewater News for the Week of October 8, 2014

    Helen Austin, PCN Correspondent|Oct 8, 2014

For a small community, we have had lots of action lately. Our sympathy goes to the following: Jay Brown’s cow was hit and killed by an ice cream truck. The calf was alive by her side yet. The truck driver was not really injured and that’s good. But it is all too bad. Carli Olson’s dog was killed by someone who broke in and ransacked the house. You both have our sympathy. Get well wishes to the Clarks of Loring, and others also. Judy Okatt from Oregon (an old school mate of mine) was here visit...

  • Uhh... Houston?

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Oct 8, 2014

I had the honor and privelege of babysitting him last Friday.. He cried and cried and cried. Diaper? Check. Bottle? Check. Get him to crib for a nap? Negative. He was really clingy this day in particular and wouldn’t let daddy put him down for anything, until ultimately he was too tired to resist. Then thankfully mom came home early...
