Dear Proud Phillips County Citizens, We wanted IT, we needed IT, and we got IT! Now what??? Let’s keep IT! The “IT” I am referring to is the River’s Bend Assisted Living. We may not understand how we can help when we don’t have someone to move into River’s Bend now, so I thought I could share my opinion regarding that.... I love doing that! I have started reading the Phillips County News back when the Regina Mt. mailman delivered it with the once-a-week mail, rain, or shine, even when it was with a tractor. Dear Editor, I am writing this letter mainly to any Phillips County farmers or ranchers who are considering putting their property in block management. If you do, please consider your neighbors, their property, and their rights and how it will affect them. When the out-of-state hunters roll in, the block management soon becomes overhunted. Some hunters choose to trespass on neighboring farms and ranches to fill their tags. The signs placed for block management work only as good as the people who monitor them. Dear Editor As most of you know Hi-Line Retirement Center in Malta closed early last fall, partly because Medicaid did not reimburse the facility the cost for skilled long term care per resident per day that it costs. At least ten others in the state have closed, with several others just barely staying open unless the state can increase the amount of reimbursement, those will close. Dear Editor While traveling the highways between Saco and Malta, you can't help but notice all the antelope on the north side of the highway. I was thinking about them, and the game we have now and what I can remember as a boy in the 1940s. There were no deer. There were no antelope. I never saw an antelope where I was raised south of Saco until the late 40s, maybe even 1950. Dear Editor, I had hoped that this letter would not have to be written but the problem at the nursing home does not seem to be going away. The need to spend county money is all caused by one man, Governor Gianforte. January 2022 I met with the Governor's people and asked for help since Medicaid was only paying about 60% of the cost of keeping residents in the nursing home. The normal rate was 95%. Dear Editor, The Hi Line Retirement Center is being closed. The CEO of the Hospital and Clinic says there’s no funding, however, he found money to hire 5 new PA’s and started renovating the clinic. It seems like smaller renovations and 2 or 3 PA’s would have been sufficient and the rest of the money given to the Nursing Home. Dear Editor, I’ve heard some real disappointing stories and I was wondering what you know about the Hi-Line home and our hospital / doctors office? Is, or was, the census at the Hi-Line up near 40 residents recently? Is the door that used to connect the home and the hospital emergency room closed off now? Dear Editor, I read Kari's Quiet Corner today. In response, I would, especially, like to see acts of kindness stories printed in the PCN. I realize they would not be a regular feature, and it would take a 'listening ear' to garner those stories.
