  • Rising Above the Waters: The Flood of 2023

    Kari Hould, PCN Staff|Apr 26, 2023

The saying goes that in the Bible days, it rained 40 days and 40 nights; during that same span at anytime over the past couple of years, Phillips County residents only ended up with three-tenths of an inch. They prayed. They waited. Some gave up. Many hung in there.  Then there are those that had marked their calendar for "90 days after a fog." The National Weather Service had stated the flood that occurred over the last couple of weeks was the worst flood since 1965. With that being said, a c...

  • VFW News: Superficial or Real?

Sharon Kindle, Patriotic Chair, VFW Post 4067|Apr 26, 2023

Dale Dye, retired Marine caption, is the founder of the technical advisory firm “Warriors Inc”. Before that he served three tours in Vietnam, making it a total of 20 years in the service. Upon deployment, he felt at loose ends, realizing he’d always been a fan of movies especially military movies. The decision was made and Dye headed to Hollywood, not to be a star, but to qualify the reality of the military movies, not glorify them. As the saying ‘ignorance is bliss’, Dye soon found out he had a lot to learn and tackled it head-on by reading a...

  • The Drawing Came and Went

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Apr 26, 2023

The drawing for special elk permits has come and gone, and for the first time in memory I didn’t care. Filling out an application for a special tag was something I used to do every spring without fail. It increased my odds of killing an elk, and guaranteed I‘d have an elk license in my pocket come fall, a general elk license being the prerequisite for the drawing. I loved to hunt elk. Over the years I managed to kill 20, evenly divided between cows and bulls. Whether I drew a special tag or not...

There is an ambulance here but cannot get anyone to be medics and drive. Maybe there is time and training involved. We are so isolated out here and a...
