The 2022 Scrip Money available for holiday shopping with the community was utilized by 46 members of the local Chamber of Commerce. The program was available at the First State Bank of Malta, Independence Bank, and the Bank of Malta. Chamber Treasurer Kaylee Williamson said the three financial institutions loaned out a total of $205,415 to customers this year, compared to $208,170 in 2021. On Wednesday, January 11, the Malta School District met for items on the agenda. Board member, Scott Meneely of the Building Committee stated the school has funds allocated and will utilize the funds to retain the architect for the HVAC – to look at the bathroom remodel and sewer system at the grade school. Born in Deming, New Mexico to Arvid Dyrdahl (Steele County, Minnesota) and Lora McNeil Dyrdahl (Lockridge, Oklahoma) on September 28th, 1943. Eugene "Gene" Lewis Mendel was born to William and Alvina Mendel on November 8, 1925, and he passed on January 15, 2023. He was one of six children and lived on the family homestead in Winifred until his senior year of high school when the family moved to Kalispell. He entered the US Navy in June of 1943 and served our country proudly on submarines for three years. Janice Rene Holzhey Abrahamson, 62, passed away quietly on January 21, 2023, at the Billings Clinic. Janice was born on August 23, 1960, to Raymond Don and Delores Diane Holzhey. It is still staying cold and looks like no relief for a while. We said goodbye to two members of our community this week with the funerals of Travis Scheffelmaer on Friday and the funeral of long-time resident Betty Munson on Saturday.
