  • 'Second to none'

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Jul 22, 2015

When the lights go down in Dodson and headliner Clay Walker and his band take the stage, expect a Country Music spectacle that is "second to none." "Our live show, in my opinion, is one of the best out there because of the great band that we have, the way that they move on stage and the video effects," Clay Walker told the PCN on Wednesday. "It's going to be a very entertaining show and a great value for anyone who comes out." Walker and his band were gearing up for a show in Oakland, California...

  • I've eaten dog food before

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoor Columnist|Jul 22, 2015

My dog Spot isn’t as sharp as she once was. Neither am I. We’re both well past our prime, sleep a lot and are easily confused. Both of us are going deaf and tend to wander aimlessly around the yard. It’s a good thing the yard is fenced. Spot celebrated her 12th birthday July 4. I doubt she’ll see many more. But in the meantime she’s comfortable thanks to a drug I’ve started giving her to help ease her arthritis pain. Now I see there’s a dog food on the market to help keep her thinking clea...

  • Apology for Fair Grounds appearance

    Jul 22, 2015

Dear Phillips County Residents, Hello to everyone. I just wanted to tell all of you that I have worked really hard over the years to make the Phillips County Fairgrounds and surrounding areas look nice during fair time. But this year, as you drive through Dodson – near the middle entrance to the fairgrounds right in front of the Hi-way Bar which is near the Gran bins – there is a pile of branches. I was ordered not to mow or touch that area due to the owner’s request. I do apologize for that area looking the way it does. Hope to see you all a...

  • Fat guy in the outfield: The struggle

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Jul 22, 2015

There are two types of people in this world. The first is a person who sat at home and watched the Major League Baseball All-Star Game last Tuesday, July 14 and the second type is an everyday Joe or Jane that played softball with the Malta Co-Ed Softball League. Then I guess there was a third type of person that did neither. Anyways, after taking off in my car to shoot a few pictures of the softball players, I arrived at Trafton Park with a camera, recorder and glove in my hand, thinking, “If t...

  • Turns out I am just as bad as ESPN

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Jul 22, 2015

ESPN hosted their annual awards ESPY Event on Wednesday night and if you have never seen the award show it is much the same as the Oscars, Emmys or Montana Better Newspaper Contest. People in a certain field – ESPN = sports – pat themselves on the backs, a bunch of advertising is sold and the producers of the show hope that something organic will happen during the telecast to create some buzz in the mainstream media so they can hike their ad rates next year. This year the producers at ESPN decided to forego letting “something organic” happen...
