  • Moe & Gertie: Continued Correspondence

    Betty Munson, For the PCN|Nov 30, 2022

Gertie replies to Moe's letter in the 11/23/22 PCN Dear Moe, My loquacious friend boiled over today. She was running off at the head as she usually does when George took offense. "You've got a big mouth,” he said. "I do not,” she snapped, “I may talk a lot but I don't have a big mouth.” Then George said, “If you'd kept your trap shut we wouldn't be having this conversation.” "Well, I wasn't the one who called your girlfriend a floozy. That was Percy, and when you cast aspersions on his mother, he delivered the roundhouse to your jaw that sa...

  • Visions of Antlers Running Through My Head

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Nov 30, 2022

The bull was bedded in the timber at the top of a spur ridge running off the mountain. There were no tracks on the side from which I approached so his appearance caught me by surprise. My rifle was slung, and he was gone before I could bring it to my shoulder. In one leap he vanished, only to reappear in my dreams. I can still see him if I want, whenever I close my eyes. He’s bigger now. Those that got away seldom shrink in size. I’ve shot other bulls – some large, some small -- and their antler...

  • Finally, My Turkey Was a Success!

    Pierre Bibbs, Play Ball|Nov 30, 2022

I must say, I actually cooked up a decent turkey last week. I almost couldn’t believe it, but it wasn’t dry, it wasn’t severely underseasoned, and I didn’t burn glaze to the bottom of a pot. I have only attempted to make turkey a few times and my family has been supportive of my battles. They have assured me that each time I have tried, they have enjoyed it, but I simply was not proud of my turkey. This year was way different. For one, I didn’t put a lot of pressure on getting it done for Thank...

  • Dodson News for Wednesday, November 30, 2022

    Eldora Henry, PCN Correspondent|Nov 30, 2022

I was in Havre for Thanksgiving and except for very small piles at corners where they cleaned the streets, it is entirely bare. Lots of water around where the snow had melted. We were not so fortunate. We still have about half snow cover. It is staying pretty cold still-----got up to 42 today but has slipped down to 36 already now. Supposed to get really cold and I'm sure it will make it. The records have said this is one of the coldest Novembers, only about 5 days around normal. The forecast...

    Michael Leach, Addicted.org|Nov 30, 2022

It can be one of the most joyous times of the year during the December holidays and New Year's day. Yet, it can also be stressful, emotional, and challenging for many families and individuals. More specifically, anyone struggling with a substance use disorder, individuals recovering from addiction, or the average person choosing to remain sober this holiday season. Holiday parties, work functions, and family gatherings during December often involve liberal amounts of alcohol, and it is frequently freely available. Powerful temptation is...

Spending time with family and friends at Thanksgiving remains important for many Americans and this year the cost of the meal is also top of mind. Farm Bureau’s 37th annual survey provides a snapshot of the average cost of this year’s classic Thanksgiving feast for 10, which is $64.05 or less than $6.50 per person. This is a $10.74 or 20% increase from last year’s average of $53.31. The centerpiece on most Thanksgiving tables – the turkey – costs more than last year, at $28.96 for a 16-pound bird. The Malta Class of 1972 made a very generous donation of $6,000.00 to the Mustang Foundation. Talking with Malta High School Principal Mr. Bleth, it was decided that the best use of the money would be to purchase a new set of puzzle desks and chairs for a high school English room. • Three Small Tanks with a Large Impact

    Kayla Walker, Ranchers Stewardship Alliance|Nov 30, 2022

If there is a water line to add, a tank to set, or a unique water set up to try, it's likely Dusty Emond has done it on his ranch south of Malta, Montana. Of the nearly 12 miles of pipeline on his place, six new miles were added just last fall following the harsh drought of 2021 to send water to an additional 7,500 acres that could not be utilized by cattle last summer due to a lack of water. However, along that pipeline there are yet to be any tanks. "Even this year, we will have at least...
