  • Malta Assembly of God Welcomes A Pair of Pastors

    Kari Hould, PCN Staff|Oct 12, 2022

Like the animals Noah selected for his infamous ark, they came in as a pair to the Assembly of God Church in Malta, last April. The "Welcome to Malta" by the friendly people, is one of the signs that both Pr. Mike Skaggs, and his wife, Debbie, thoroughly enjoyed. Coming to the quaint little town of ours, the Skaggs' have found the ideal town and can easily call this "home." Pr. Mike has been to "The Streets of Bakersfield" in California, literally. He attended school across the street from the...

  • Have You Ever Tasted Stone Soup?

    Sharon Kindle, Malta Senior Center|Oct 12, 2022

Come on down to the Malta Senior Center Saturday, October 22, and let your taste buds take you on an experience of yore. The free-will donations will go towards the awning over the front door. Dolly Parton, whom many people enjoy listening to her songs, had Stone Soup as a staple in her diet. Growing up in Tennessee, Parton was one of several children, who fondly recalls her parents, Robert and Avie while living in the beautiful Tennessee mountains. Avie Parton would have each of her children go in search a stone, scrub it clean, and bring the...

  • Ace Knew What He Was Missing

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Oct 12, 2022

It’s the season of the backup. Dot came up lame last week. She may have blown out a knee. I’ll know more when we go back to the vet. In the meantime she’s supposed to take it easy, which means no hunting, and no pheasant season opener for her. Enter Ace, my Jimmy Garappolo. The San Francisco 49ers’ aging quarterback wasn’t expected to play this season until hot-shot newcomer Trey Lance broke his ankle in a game against the Seahawks last month. Jimmy G, like Ace, had been relegated to coming off...

  • I Just Turned 35 and Had a Birthday Party?

    Pierre Bibbs, Play Ball|Oct 12, 2022

Last Wednesday, October 5, I reached a milestone in terms of age. I turned 35. Typically I do not make a big deal about my day of birth. If someone was to ask me what I want for my birthday, typically I cannot provide an answer. Over the last few years the answer has been some type of sneaker. This year’s birthday sneaker is the Nike SB High Concepts Turdunken, which is a sneaker that I have wanted for a couple of years. Other than the yearly sneaker pick, I have no idea what I want for my b...

Sympathy to the victims of Hurricane Ian in Florida. We are so lucky not to have hurricanes or volcanoes. Recently I talked to Candee Soennichsen, she said Sophia Stiles and Mikita Hellie are both near the hurricane. (Mikita is Jason and Adam’s sister). Sophia is playing basketball in Florida. Both were partly raised in Whitewater. Back to Whitewater, it is October! Hard to believe. Happy Birthday to all October birthdays including Leona Siewing! Also, Happy Anniversary to all those c...

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Oct 12, 2022

I have heard the Sandhill cranes as they fly over on their way south several days this week! On Saturday the Andrew Flansaas Suicide Awareness memorial run drew a crowd of participants to the Loring area. Randy Stenvic bused the runners to the starting line 3.1 miles from Loring. The youngest participant was just 7 weeks old, Lyla Harms! Several people volunteered to sign people up and time, then some drove along beside the runners to provide water or encouragement! Eldora Henry, PCN Correspondent|Oct 12, 2022

Looks like fall is definitely with us. The tree’s leaves in my yard are falling every day like snowflakes and most of the leaves are yellow. Lots of dew every morning and the sun is not so early. They are still working on the sewer and water at Ava Welch's house. They seemed to have gotten it clear to the alley now. Hope it works with all the angles, etc. Velyma Broadhead and her daughter have returned home and have been busy cleaning her yard for winter. (Cleanest yard in town!) My g...

The event started with a new ceremony, a Senior Walk, an event that honored three M-ette Seniors, which included Izzie Hallenberg, Kirsta Meisdalen, and Olivia Negus. The PCN caught up with Hallenberg, who thought of the idea. "I wanted it to be special for us seniors this year because we always have to share (the night) with football or volleyball,"...

  • Penguins at Frazer, Malta Meets

    Carly Hammond, For the PCN|Oct 12, 2022

We attended the rescheduled Frazer race on Tuesday, October 4, and the Malta Invitational on Saturday, October 8. It was a full week for the girls. I ended up giving them Wednesday and Friday off for some extra rest days. They were feeling pretty heavy by Thursday. Both races had beautiful weather and great competition for the girls. There weren't as many runners as usual, but when you have Scobey and Glasgow at the meets it doesn't really matter. In Frazer, Samantha Wisher finished in 4th...

  • Malta XC at Frazer Invitational

    Thea Solberg, PCN Correspondent|Oct 12, 2022

The Frazer Cross Country Meet had been previously scheduled for September 22, but had been postponed because of some much needed rain to the area and the results of that lovely rain event caused a very muddy area for running. But on Tuesday, October 4, the Malta Cross Country team traveled on a very beautiful fall day over to the area called Clark's Hill, just a few miles southwest of Frazer overlooking the beautiful Missouri River. Today's running course was dry and provided just the right...
